A Country of Contrast and Connection
Vietnam is a land of vivid colour and powerful contrasts, where ancient temples and modern cities sit side by side and dramatic landscapes stretch from the highlands to the coast. With its deep culture, mouthwatering cuisine and welcoming spirit, Vietnam invites travellers to experience something truly memorable.
Cruise through the limestone karsts of Ha Long Bay, wander the lantern-lit streets of Hoi An or explore the historic charm of Hanoi’s Old Quarter. In the south, dive into the energy of Ho Chi Minh City or relax in the Mekong Delta, where life flows slowly along palm-lined canals. Whether you’re trekking in Sapa or tasting street food in Hue, Vietnam offers rich rewards at every turn.
Vietnam works beautifully for tailor-made holidays. You can travel north to south or focus on a particular region. Choose from cultural touring, beach stays, active adventures or a mix of all three. Accommodation ranges from heritage hotels and luxury retreats to quiet riverside lodges.
The best time to visit varies by region. The north is ideal from October to April, the south is great year-round, and the central coast shines from February to August. We’ll help you choose the right route and season based on your interests.
With Nexus Travel, we’ll design your Vietnam journey with care and balance. Whether you’re travelling for culture, food, scenery or relaxation, we’ll ensure every step of your experience feels seamless, enriching and full of local insight.

Entry Requirements
UK passport holders can enter Vietnam for up to 45 days without a visa. For longer stays, a visa can be arranged online or through the embassy. Your passport must be valid for at least six months beyond your arrival date.
Best Time to Visit
Vietnam’s climate varies by region. The north is best from October to April, the centre from February to August, and the south is generally dry and sunny from December to April. Always check weather by region before travel.
Vaccinations
Recommended vaccinations include hepatitis A, typhoid, and tetanus. Depending on your itinerary, you may also need cover for rabies or Japanese encephalitis. Mosquito protection is strongly advised, especially in rural areas.
Currency
The official currency is the Vietnamese Dong (VND). Cash is commonly used, especially in markets and rural areas. Credit cards are accepted in hotels and major restaurants. ATMs are widely available in cities and towns.
Language
Vietnamese is the official language. English is spoken in many tourist areas, particularly by younger people and those in hospitality. Learning a few basic Vietnamese phrases is helpful and appreciated.
Electricity
Vietnam uses plug types A, C, and D with a voltage of 220V. A universal adaptor is recommended. Power supply is generally reliable in cities but can be less so in rural areas.
Halong Bay
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Halong Bay is known for its limestone islands, emerald waters, and traditional junk boat cruises. It is a must for first-time visitors to Vietnam.
Hanoi
The capital blends French colonial charm with buzzing street life, historic temples, and lakeside strolls. Visit the Old Quarter, Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, and local street food markets.
Hoi An
This beautifully preserved town is known for its lantern-lit streets, tailor shops, and riverside restaurants. A perfect mix of history, culture, and relaxed charm.
Hue
Once the imperial capital, Hue is home to the historic Citadel, royal tombs, and pagodas. Located on the Perfume River, it offers a glimpse into Vietnam’s royal past.
Ho Chi Minh City
Vietnam’s largest city is fast-paced and full of energy. Visit the War Remnants Museum, Cu Chi Tunnels, and enjoy rooftop dining with skyline views.
Mekong Delta
Explore floating markets, riverside villages, and rice paddies in this lush region. Boat trips reveal a slower pace of life and authentic local experiences.
Getting Around
Vietnam has a good transport network. Travel between cities by plane, train, or coach. Within towns, taxis, Grab rides, and bicycles are popular. Motorbikes are common, but take care if hiring one yourself.
Travel Insurance
Comprehensive insurance should include medical cover, cancellations, and adventure activities like trekking or cycling. Healthcare varies by region, with better facilities in large cities.
Packing Essentials
Light clothing, insect repellent, comfortable shoes, and sun protection are key. Pack modest clothing for temples and a waterproof layer during the rainy season.
Weather Conditions
Vietnam’s weather varies across its length. Always check regional forecasts. Rainfall can be heavy in some months, so plan accordingly and allow flexibility in your itinerary.
Food & Water Safety
Vietnamese cuisine is fresh and flavourful, but avoid raw or undercooked food in street settings. Drink only bottled or filtered water, and avoid ice in drinks outside hotels and restaurants.
Local Etiquette
Vietnamese people are polite and reserved. Dress modestly, remove shoes in homes and temples, and avoid pointing or touching anyone’s head. A smile goes a long way.
Long, Thin Geography
Vietnam stretches over 1,600 kilometres from north to south, offering an incredible variety of landscapes, from mountains and rice terraces to beaches and deltas.
Motorbike Nation
With millions of motorbikes on the roads, Vietnam’s traffic is part of its character. Watching (and crossing) busy intersections is an experience in itself.
Coffee Culture
Vietnam is the world’s second-largest coffee producer. Try local favourites like egg coffee, coconut coffee, or traditional drip-brewed black coffee with condensed milk.
Tailored Clothing
Hoi An is famous for its skilled tailors. Many visitors have suits, dresses, or jackets made within 24 to 48 hours at excellent value and quality.
Festivals & Traditions
Tet, or Lunar New Year, is Vietnam’s biggest celebration. The country also celebrates regional festivals with parades, food offerings, and traditional dances throughout the year.
UNESCO Treasures
Vietnam is home to multiple UNESCO World Heritage Sites including Halong Bay, Hoi An, My Son Sanctuary, and the Phong Nha caves, showcasing natural and cultural wonders.
