Best Time to Visit
Spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November) offer mild temperatures and blooming landscapes, ideal for exploring Petra and the desert without intense heat.
Vaccinations
Routine vaccinations are recommended, including hepatitis A, typhoid, and tetanus. Check the latest NHS travel guidance before departure.
Currency
The Jordanian Dinar (JOD) is the official currency. Credit cards are accepted in cities and tourist areas, but carry cash for smaller towns and rural sites.
Language
Arabic is the official language. English is widely spoken in hotels, shops, and among tour guides, making it easy for visitors to navigate and communicate.
Electricity
Jordan uses 220V supply with European-style plugs (Types C, D, F, and G). A universal adaptor is recommended for UK travellers.
Petra
This ancient Nabataean city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Don’t miss the dramatic Treasury and the Monastery.
Wadi Rum
Explore this vast desert landscape on a jeep tour, camel ride, or overnight in a Bedouin camp beneath clear starry skies and towering sandstone mountains.
Dead Sea
Float effortlessly in the mineral-rich waters of the Dead Sea, the lowest point on Earth, and enjoy natural mud treatments and spa experiences along the shore.

Aqaba
Relax at Red Sea beaches, snorkel vibrant coral reefs, or enjoy water sports and resort living in Jordan’s southernmost city.
Dress Code
Modest clothing is advised, especially in rural areas or religious sites. Women should consider covering shoulders and knees. Lightweight, breathable fabrics are ideal for warm weather.
Transport
Taxis and private drivers are common for travel between cities. Buses connect major routes, and tours are popular for exploring remote areas like Wadi Rum and Petra.
Safety
Jordan is considered one of the safest countries in the Middle East. Tourist sites are well managed, and locals are known for their hospitality and helpfulness.
Water & Food
Bottled water is recommended for drinking. Jordanian cuisine is delicious and generally safe for visitors. Try mezze, grilled meats, and freshly baked bread.
Weather Variability
Expect hot days and cool nights in the desert. Winter months can be surprisingly cold, particularly in Petra and Amman. Pack layers to stay comfortable.
Jordan Pass
Consider purchasing the Jordan Pass online before arrival. It covers visa fees and entry to more than 40 attractions, including Petra, Wadi Rum, and Jerash.
